As part of a major new recruitment initiative across the University of Manchester (see www.worldleadingminds.manchester.ac.uk), the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine (CHSTM) invites applications for the role of Professor in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine and Director of CHSTM (Ref: LSX-00491).

CHSTM is one of the largest groups in the history of science, technology and medicine in the UK, and has within it a Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine and the UK National Archive for the History of Computing. Our research focuses largely on the history of science, technology and medicine since 1800, drawing on approaches from Science and Technology Studies (STS) and allied fields, and extending to Science Communication and Contemporary History. We are particularly interested in the intersections and interactions between science and technology and medicine; all of our work explores these fields in their social, cultural and political contexts. We are seeking to appoint someone with an outstanding record of research and leadership in one or more areas of the history of science, technology and medicine, as evidenced by research publications, achievement in the field and professional profile. In addition to contributing research and leadership, the appointee will offer teaching and supervisions at undergraduate and Masters levels.
