Call for nominations: ' Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar lecture' - Royal Society Centre for the History of Science - Deadline: Feb. 14, 2011

The Royal Society Centre for History of Science invites nominations for the Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar lecture, the Society’s premier award for history of science and related disciplines. Nominations are required by Monday 14 February 2011.

The Wilkins, Bernal and Medawar (WBM) Lectures were originally delivered separately, but are now combined into an annual lecture. The successful candidate may be chosen from any of the subjects that were previously covered by the three separate events. Talks are given on some aspect of: the social function of science (Bernal); the philosophy of science (Medawar); or the history of science (Wilkins). Last year’s speaker was Melvyn Bragg FRS and previous award winners and lecturers have included Professor Richard Gregory FRS (2001), Professor John Heilbron (2006) and Sian Ede (2008).

All nominations are welcome. Importantly, it is anticipated that wherever possible, the Medals and Awards Committee will award lectures to nominees in the early-to-mid stage of their career.

For further details and to propose a candidate please fill in the nomination form on the Society’s website at royalsociety.org/Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar-Lecture/ and return the completed form to the Royal Society by e-mail.
