Job: Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany‏

We are looking for a PhD-student/post-doc holding a degree in physics. The post will be situated at the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Provided approval of the grant application, there will be a stipend of 15.000 € per annum available for the successful candidate. The post does not require permanent residence in Frankfurt. We work at the intersection of history of science and material culture studies focusing on objects that initiate and enhance cognitive practices. These objects are manuscripts, (scientific) instruments, models, common things. Areas of interest are quantum physics, the neurosciences, and psychology 1890-1950 in Europe.

The successful candidate will do research in the subproject of quantum physics. She/he is able to read the correspondence of Schrödinger, Heisenberg, Pauli, Bohr and others as it is archived in the 'Sources for the History of Quantum Physics'. The candidate is in command of the formal language and, related to selected topics in the sources, is able to track the 'innovative pathway' of the argument. She/he is able to comprehend the text segments in natural language of the correspondence (German).
