Open Access, UK - Arcadia Fund initiative

The Arcadia Fund is a private philanthropic fund that has been petitioning for Open
Access to academic research. Following on from our contribution to the Hargreaves review of
IP, Arcadia recently participated in a round table discussion on Open Access with David
Willetts MP, Minister of State for Universities and Science. In attendance were heads from
most of the Research Councils, JISC, RIN, HEFCE, several publishers and learned societies,
research charities, including the Wellcome Trust, and leading academics. We are delighted
that the government has now produced a document stating its support for Open Access, and its
inclusion in the forthcoming White Paper on Higher Education.

Full details of the government’s position - along with Arcadia's recommendations and
signatories of support - are available on our website: www.arcadiafund.org.uk/publications.
