Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Research Experiences internship program

The Smithsonian Natural History Research Experiences (NHRE) program will again take place this upcoming summer, from May 31 – August 5, 2011, in Washington, D.C.. This paid internship pairs undergraduate students with National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) mentors to complete projects on scholarly research. Here is an opportunity for students to engage in an original research project with a scientific mentor from one or more of the scholarly disciplines at the National Museum of Natural History: Anthropology, Botany, Entomology, Invertebrate Zoology, Mineral Science, Paleobiology, Vertebrate Zoology, and Museum Education.

Interested students should consult the NHRE web page (http://www.mnh.si.edu/NHRE/) for further information, including application materials (which are due Feb. 7, 2011). International students are welcome to apply, though funding source requirements will limit the number of awards that can be made to non-US citizens.

Information about research and collections at NMNH can be found at http://www.mnh.si.edu/rc/. If you have questions about the program, please email NHRE@si.edu .
