HISTORY OF SCIENCE GRADUATE STUDIES IN BARCELONA

History of Science is a dynamic discipline in the Barcelona area. Led by the Centre d’Història de la Ciència (CEHIC) [http://www.cehic.es], in close collaboration with several groups from local universities and research centres, a graduate programme (Master and PhD.) has been developed in recent years. It began as a joint venture between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), but it has progressively incorporated teaching and research staff from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

The programme provides basic, interdisciplinary training in the history of science, technology and medicine for students with different backgrounds in the natural sciences and humanities. It covers a great variety of subjects, from the origins of modern science to contemporary science communication, and material culture.

Graduate students benefit from an international programme of research seminars, a cosmopolitan academic atmosphere in the city, and a very rich scientific heritage, easily available for research in archives, libraries and museums.
