POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE / ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY OF THE NORTH

The Department of History at The Florida State University seeks a postdoctoral fellow for the 2011-2012 academic year, beginning August 15, 2011. The successful candidate will be pursuing research in the history of nineteenth and twentieth century science centered on northern regions, broadly conceived, including intersections with environmental history, diplomatic history, Arctic history, and the history of technology. In addition to pursuing research, the fellow will teach two undergraduate courses in the Department of History (fields and topics open).

The fellow will have an office within FSU’s Department of History, a diverse intellectual community of some thirty faculty (including six scholars specialized in the history of science, technology, medicine, and the environment), and nearly one hundred graduate students. The Department is home to several specialized research centers, including the Reichelt Oral History Program, the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience, and the Institute on Napoleon and the French Revolution; the campus also has an active multidisciplinary History and Philosophy of Science Program. Applicants must have been awarded a Ph.D. since December 1, 2006 and before June 30, 2011. The fellowship includes competitive salary and a research stipend of $3000.
